In 1967, they opened a boxed beef operation at the company's new Dakota City plant complex, one of the first large-scale beef-processing plants in the nation, and revolutionized meat processing. The Citizens Against River Pollution (CARP) was a grassroots group formed in 1988 to address concerns regarding the pollution of the Iowa and Cedar Rivers in southeastern Iowa by the Columbus Junction hog slaughtering plant run by Iowa Beef Processors (IPB).
